Learn more about the Narrative Nonfiction track in our Online MFA in Narrative Media Writing!

The University of Georgia offers a low-residency Online Master of Fine Arts in Narrative Media Writing program with a Narrative Nonfiction track that allows students to produce a publishable nonfiction manuscript in only two years. The highlight of the program is the intensive 8-day residency at the start of each 15-week semester, during which students forge relationships with their peers and mentors. The residency includes workshops, seminars, craft lectures, panel discussions, and readings. The residency precedes an immersive, 4-month writing period—which writers complete online from the comfort of their favorite writing spot.

The Narrative Nonfiction track is designed for students who want to develop their research, reporting, and writing skills to take on topics of national and global importance. The nonfiction track is directed at writers with some experience who want to explore writing long-form, research-based narratives. This track is ideal for mid-career journalists and other industry professionals who want to elevate their careers. Graduates of the online MFA become stronger, more employable writers.

The University of Georgia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). “As soon as I read the description about the program, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. It combined everything I was looking for in a writing MFA with the rigors of journalism, as the only program of its kind housed in a journalism school,”
